Varvara, a student pursuing her Bachelor of Science at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, sat with us and shared about her experience on the Weizmann campus in the 2024 cohort of the Kupcinet-Getz International Summer School.
What made you choose to apply and participate in the Kupcinet-Getz International Summer School?
I’ve always known that the Weizmann Institute is a top place for research, and I wanted to experience that environment firsthand. The Kupcinet-Getz program offered a perfect opportunity to spend my summer learning, meeting brilliant people, and being part of real scientific work.
What has been the most surprising thing about the program and experience at the Weizmann Institute?
I was surprised by how much I was able to learn and grow in just two months. The program was well-structured, allowing me to develop my research skills, improve my presentation abilities, and deepen my understanding of the subject. The balance between work and extracurricular activities made the experience even more enjoyable.
What has been your favorite part of the experience so far?
My favorite part has been working in the lab and connecting with people from around the world who share similar interests. It’s been rewarding to collaborate and learn from others.
What are your plans after completing the program?
I have a few weeks before my final year at university starts. While I’m still figuring out my next steps, I’m sure this won’t be my last time at the Weizmann Institute. This experience has confirmed my desire to continue advancing in academia.
