Round Table on Science Diplomacy at the Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin

As part of the prestigious Falling Walls Foundation Science Summit in Berlin, the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung hosted a round table on science diplomacy on November 8. High-profile guests partook in the round table. Prof. David Harel of the Weizmann Institute of Science, Department of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, and President of The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, was a panelist in this intriguing discussion. Other distinguished speakers include Prof. Dr. Robert Schlögl, President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Angela Liberatore, Head of the Science Department of the European Research Council (ERC). The round table was moderated by author and journalist Shelly Kupferberg.

The panelists discussed the framework conditions under which it is possible to maintain scientific cooperation even in times of crisis and what function these collaborations have in the crisis itself or for the time afterwards. One focus of the discussion was on the limits of science diplomacy and the possibilities of affected scientists and institutions dealing with this challenge.

The Falling Walls Science Summit is one of the most prestigious science conferences in Germany, where international scientists, sponsors, political stakeholders and business representatives come together to discuss topics of high social relevance and to develop solutions for the future.

We thank the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung for hosting this highly engaging event, and for its support of the Weizmann Institute of Science.
